Youth Development

The Institute for Community and Youth

Youth are an underutilized resource. They are often seen as the source of community problems, rather than the solution. In 2003, archi-treasures partnered with T.E.R.C. to form the Institute for Community and Youth (ICY), a leadership development program. The goal of ICY is to create a corps of young leaders in Chicago who are engaged in community building at a grassroots level.

ICY seeks to integrate youth and community development – a powerful objective in the movement toward social justice for distressed urban communities. The ICY program assists youth in being able to recognize and mobilize resources within their own communities. By providing opportunity resources and training, ICY transforms disenfranchised youth into productive citizens.
